How do I update a WordPress theme without losing customization?
Keep custom code in a child theme, because an update replaces the parent theme’s files and erases direct edits to them. Settings saved through the Customizer or Site Editor live in the database and survive updates. Take a backup before updating, and in CMDPress check security findings first and recent activity afterwards.
How do I update a WordPress theme manually?
Download the new version as a zip, then in wp-admin go to Appearance, Themes, Add New and upload it; WordPress offers to replace the installed version. You can also replace the theme folder in wp-content/themes over FTP. Back up the site first, and use Magic Login in CMDPress to reach wp-admin without the password.
Do inactive WordPress themes need updates?
Yes. Inactive themes stay on the server, and a vulnerable one can still be exploited, so update them or delete the ones you do not need. Keep one default theme as a fallback, plus the parent of any child theme. CMDPress lists every installed theme on a site and shows which are out of date.
